I love Woody. Especially those early, funnier films.I’ll write more about the man and his films at some point in the near future. For now here’s a very interesting interview I found from youtube. It’s taken from 1971 not long after he wrapped work on the film Banana’s. The interview, split into four parts, is not only piss funny, but reminds us what a genuinely, inventive comedian he is, certainly he was at that point in his life. The interview is also interesting in that it seems to be an unscripted 37 minute jam with Barry Took (some have suggested it’s Peter Cook), the absurd answers and on the spot questions, not unlike the 1994 Why Bother? between Chris Morris and Peter Cook. You really get the sense of that the likes of Armando Iannucci and other leftfield comedy writers and performers must be in part influenced by Allen’s absurd imagery, the sight gags, the playful language and self-deprecation.
Above all I’m posting it because it’s funny.
